Which Programs Qualify for this Scholarship?
The following programs only are permitted to apply for this scholarship:
- Any full-time (1 year) master’s degree programs starting in the 2025/26 academic year is eligible to apply.
- Any full-time research degree programs starting in the 2025/26 academic year is also eligible to apply.
- Those applying to courses in the College of Development Studies, Economics and Finance and College of Law, Anthropology and Politics are especially invited to apply.
It is also important to note that applicants from the listed fields would be given first-hand preference.
Also note that people offering two-year master’s degree programs and part-time courses are ineligible to apply.

Who may Qualify for this Scholarship?
- Only full blooded African nationals are eligible for this scholarship.
- Only international fee paying applicants may apply for this scholarship.
- Only for new admissions (programmes beginning in 2025/26).
- Applicants for the MA scholarship must have or anticipate to get an international equivalent to a first-class honours degree from a British university. Those with non-UK degrees must be in the top rank as shown by transcripts and references. Applicants with a 2:1 may also apply but will not be given preference.
- Applicants for the MPhil/PhD fellowship must either have or expect to be rewarded with an international equivalent to a master’s degree with distinction from a British university. Those holding a non-UK master’s degree must be in the top rank as shown by transcripts and references. Those with a merit may also apply but will not be given precedence.
- Scholarship applicants are not to have gotten an offer of admission by the scholarship deadline; although they must have applied to SOAS.
- Applicants must satisfy the English language requirement of their offer of admission to study at SOAS.

What is the Value of the Hyundai Motor Group Scholarships?
The 2025/26 Hyundai Motor master’s award is worth £27,730, from which all tuition costs will be covered. A stipend will be given for the difference if the tuition fee is lower.
The PhD award will cover tuition fees for three years of full-time study as well as the tuition fee for writing up in a 4th year.
An annual stipend (£22,780 in 2025/26) will be provided each year and paid in termly instalments.

Apply for the scholarship proper through the online application portal. This scholarship has to be applied for by 12:00pm (midday) UK local time on 25 April 2025.
