Montana State University Masters Scholarship Details:

One Master’s student is needed by Montana State University’s Department of Ecology to collaborate on a research project with the Smithsonian Institution National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute, and the Fort Belknap Fish and Wildlife Department.

Investigating the genetics and movement ecology of fast foxes on the Fort Belknap Indian Reservation in northern Montana is the focus of the Montana State University Masters Scholarship research project.

The goal of this Montana State University Scholarship is to evaluate the home ranges, kinship, dispersion, gene flow, and genetic diversity of a recently formed swift fox population that has been reintroduced to the research area after translocation operations in 2020–2023.

Eligibility Requirements for Montana State University Scholarship

To be considered for the  Scholarship, you must:

  • B.S. in wildlife science, ecology, zoology, or closely related field
  • Average GPA of 3.0 in biology courses; 3.0 average in courses taken during the junior and senior years; and 2.5 average in chemistry, physics and mathematics courses
  • A strong work ethic, drive, and motivation to succeed
  • Aptitude for modelling and quantitative ecology / evolutionary biology
  • Aptitude or interest in scientific programming and bioinformatics
  • Part-time degrees
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience in field-based wildlife research, preferably in remote grassland ecosystems.
  • Experience in basic laboratory techniques.
  • Ability to work independently and as a productive member of a research team.
