Eleven students have been taken into custody by the Kano Police Command on suspicion of being involved in the murders of two secondary school pupils in Kano State’s Bichi Local Government Area.
A gang of students allegedly attacked four of their coworkers at around 11.30 p.m. on Monday due to allegations of gay conduct, according to Daily Trust.
Two of the victims were allegedly immediately beaten to death, while the rest were sent to Bichi General Hospital for treatment after suffering severe injuries.
“One of the teachers informed us that a crisis broke out in the school, initially described as a fight between students. It later became clear that the victims were accused of homosexuality, and the attackers beat them severely. Two of the students died on the spot, while another was rushed to the hospital,” a source said.
Two pupils were hurt, according to a subsequent report, and are presently being treated at Bichi General Hospital.
SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the command spokeswoman, stated on Wednesday that police have opened an inquiry into the event and that individuals involved would face legal action.
Ali Haruna Makoda, the Kano State Commissioner for Education, has ordered a prompt and open investigation into the issue through Bashir Baffa, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry.
“This is an unfortunate and tragic event. The Kano State Government is committed to a thorough, fair, and transparent investigation to uncover the truth and ensure justice is served,” Makoda said.
He also extended condolences to the families of the deceased on behalf of the government and people of Kano State. “We pray that Almighty Allah grants the victims Jannatul Firdaus,” he said.
In response, Alhaji Abbas Abdullahi, the Director of the Kano State Senior Secondary School Management Board, called the occurrence “disturbing.”
He advised pupils to use self-control and refrain from breaking the law.
